Background Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited – SJVN a joint venture of the Government of India (GOI) and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The Power Plant has been designed to generate 6950 MU of electrical energy in a 90% dependable year with 95 % machine availability. It is also providing 1500 MW of valuable peaking power to the Northern Grid.
Due to flash floods, the water had seeped into power house of Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd – Jhakri. Two basement floors were completely submerged in water resulting in shutdown of power plant.
The Problem
-
Equipment like unit Auxiliary Transformer, Generators, Generator Panels, HT/LT Transformer, relay/MCB, Unit Auxilary Board, Neutral Ground Transformer, Excitation Transformers were susceptible to water damage and corrosion.
- The equipment were facing the danger of partial impairment.
- The power plant was loosing daily revenue of around 8 crores
- Total insurance loss was approximate 200 crores.
The Solution
Because Technical Drying Services (TDS) can effectively address any emergency drying needs “in real time”, TDS reached the site and restoration work started with preliminary activities of assessing the damage.
Restoration work was started with dehumidifiers providing approximately 11,000 cfm of dry air.
Standing water was pumped out. Vapour barrier was created over critical equipments like governor panels, transformers etc… dry air was supplied to increase the rate of evaporation. Dehumidified air through flexible ducts was pumped into generator pit for drying and simultaneously adsorbing excess moisture from the equipments. Humidity and temperature was recorded periodically for monitoring of drying procedure.
The restoration work was completed in about 21 days time.
The Benefits
Expert help and Fast Recovery
When you call TDS you will get drying system large enough to handle the job and powerful enough to thoroughly dry your material.
Reduced Loss
TDS drying methods restored plant machines and equipments to prevent further cascading corrosion problems. TDS also helped in reducing the damaged losses of critical electric machinery.
Back in Business
The revenue generation started immediately with the start of Power Plant.
