Sugar is a sweet crystalline substance obtained from various plants, especially sugar cane and sugar beet, consisting essentially of sucrose, and used as a sweetener in food and drinks.

Problems
Sugar is widely used in all parts of the world. However, sugar is extremely hygroscopic, and absorbs moisture very quickly, creating innumerable operational problems during storage and packing.

Humidity can also lead to problems like:

  • Malfunction of the turbine during its idle stage
  • Mold growth and spoilage of sugar
  • Condensation inside the silo leading to stickiness and make it difficult to transfer sugar
  • Moisture absorption while conveying affects the final product and spoils the material
  • Conveying sugar due to agglomeration

TDS services for Sugar Industry:

  • During preservation of turbines and critical electromechanical equipment, relative humidity should be maintained at 15%-30% RH at 24ºC (75ºF) temperature
  • Relative humidity at sugar storage areas should be maintained at 20% RH and temperature should be 24°C (75°F)
  • Brown Sugar or raw sugar to be manufactured in a condition where the relative humidity is below 40% RH level
  • At the packaging area, the recommended RH level is 30% and temperature should be 25-30ºC
